Upon selecting the type of wood floors that you would like for your commercial or residential property, our team at Buono's Flooring Co. can help you personalize your floors though the addition of unique design elements and surface finishes.

  • Borders: borders create a frame effect in a particular room or area, and usually contrast to the main area of the room. For example, a simple installation of a medium colored wood such as strip white oak might include a border outlining the room in a contrasting darker species of wood such as Brazilian cherry. The possibilities are endless, and are not limited to wood only. Borders can incorporate multiple wood species, stone, marble, brass, stainless steel, nickel, and other metals.

  • Medallions: medallions usually are installed in the main field of the floor, typically in areas such as foyers. Medallions can incorporate multiple wood species, and other mixed media, such as stone, metal, and leather. Factory finished medallions can be routed into existing floors with minimal disruption. For more customized looks, such as a family crest, a professional wood flooring installer can work with you to select the species and colors that will best meet your needs.

  • Exotic Woods: exotic woods are available in a variety of colors and can add an entirely new look to any room. Want something with a pinkish-red hue to enhance your décor? Consider Bubinga from Africa. Is rustic more your style? Take a look at Australian Cypress, which is harder than domestic knotty pine. Is purple your passion? Purpleheart from Mexico will age to a deep purple or purplish brown. Want something sleek and dark? Wenge from Africa, will age to a very deep brown, almost black, color. With exotic wood species, the possibilities are endless.
  • Oil-modified urethane: a solvent base polyurethane that dries in about 8 – 12 hours. This type of finish ambers. This is the most popular choice for homeowners due to durability and affordability.
  • Water-based urethane: water-based finishes are clear and non-yellowing. They have a milder odor and dry in about 2 – 3 hours. This option is growing in popularity due to environmental concerns. In general, even the best water based finishes are less durable than other finishes. Water-based finish is also more expensive than oil-modified finishes, though people are surprised to learn this. However, most water-based finishes are fortified with aluminum oxide for much needed durability, and this is what makes the finish more expensive.
  • ZERO VOC finish: A waterborne finishing treatment for wood floors that is completely solvent-free. Produced with renewable raw materials, ZERO VOC waterbase is ideal for green building and when applied directly on the wood it leaves the shade unaltered and provides a very natural effect. ZERO VOC is the first finish in the world that has completely eliminated volatile substances.
  • Moisture-cured urethane: a solvent-based polyurethane that is more durable and more moisture resistant than other surface finishes. Moisture-cure urethane comes in non-yellowing and in ambering types and is generally available in satin or gloss. These finishes have an extremely strong odor that pretty much commands evacuation of the home during application and drying.
We also replace or install baseboard and floor molding. We have access to many profiles, but here's our standard moldings that come primed and ready to be painted. We also offer moldings in different wood species to match your floor.
